MEDA is a nonprofit organization
Dedicated to the Prevention & Treatment of Eating Disorders.
We provide clinical services for individuals and families, educational programs for the community and training for professionals.
We offer a variety of clinical and therapeutic services to support individuals and loved ones through the various stages of their journeys. We provide education about eating disorders and their underlying causes to develop a compassionate community that promotes hopefulness and supports healing.
Day 2 of #MEDAConference2025 gave us depth, challenge, and connection.
We began with a powerful keynote from Chevese Turner, who asked the hard questions about the future of our field—and didn’t shy away from the hope within reach.
Whether we were exploring how purity culture impacts recovery, to examining systemic harm in medical training, to naming the barriers neurodivergent and marginalized folks face—today’s sessions reminded us: healing is never one-size-fits-all.
Whether you found yourself in a conversation that shifted your perspective or witnessed a speaker who moved you—we’d love to see your moments!
Tag us and use #MEDAConference2025 to share your takeaways, reflections, and photos.
Thank you for showing up with openness, honesty, and heart. We can’t wait for 2026!

That’s a wrap on Day 1 of #MEDAConference2025!
From Sand Chang, Ph.D.’s powerful keynote on embodiment and collective liberation, to thought-provoking sessions exploring trauma-informed care, size inclusivity, ARFID, re-feeding risks, and healing in connection - today was full of insight, empathy, and community.
With 16 breakout sessions covering everything from provider self-compassion to the hidden challenges of EDs in men, our speakers brought their brilliance and authenticity to the forefront.
We ended the day the best way possible - with connection and conversation at our Social Hour hosted by @acutecenterforeds.
Thank you to our speakers, hosts, and attendees for making Day 1 a meaningful experience - and thank you to @monte.nido for a wonderful lunch!
We can’t wait to see you tomorrow for another full day of learning, reflection, and healing.

Denim Day, April 30th, is a powerful reminder that we stand against sexual violence and support people who have been harmed. 💙
By wearing denim today, we raise awareness not just for sexual assault, but also for the ways body image struggles and eating disorders are deeply connected to trauma. Together, let’s break the silence and continue to work for healing, strength, and justice.

Numbness and/or dissociation - the body’s quiet poetry of protection (and also at times, the eating disorder’s best side kick).
Detachment and disconnection are not flaws, but the soft armor of survival. Healing begins when we stop rushing and start revering the brilliance of our body’s response. We must try not to judge times when we dissociate or detach. They are there for reasons.
🌿💫 Honor your body’s wisdom. Be curious. Be kind. Begin again, gently.

Some days in recovery feel extra heavy. Thoughts like:
➡️ “I’m working so hard, and I keep finding myself back where I started.”
➡️ “I’m tired of trying only to feel like I’m getting nowhere.”
These are valid, human, and incredibly common in eating disorder recovery. But here’s what you can gently remind yourself when you’re having thoughts like this:
✨ Remember your why. Why did you start? If you are just beginning, consider your “why”.
💡 Look at the full timeline. You’ve likely been struggling for years. Healing doesn’t happen overnight.
🪞 Celebrate the shifts. Even the smallest changes matter. Has anything about your mindset, habits, or self-awareness improved? That is progress.
🌱 Recovery takes time. It’s okay if you’re not where you want to be yet. Showing up and trying? That’s already huge.
You are not failing. You are healing. 💞

This is a personal memoir of binge eating disorder and anti-fat bias in society—and it’s different than anything we’ve read before.
Emma writes with raw, vulnerable honesty about her struggles with BED. She never glorifies the disorder (something we see way too often in eating disorder memoirs), and instead offers a nuanced look at what recovery really looks like—messy, ongoing, and deeply human.
I think my favorite quote is “Oh, the things we force our bodies to bear when our minds aren’t ready to carry the weight.”
This book challenged me, comforted me, and reminded me of the power of telling our truths. We definitely recommend additing it to your TBR, with the caveat and CW that it does mention ED behaviors. 💜~ OJ

We’ll be honest—We don’t love the word “resilient.” At times it feels like a heavy word that glorifies survival, when we deserve so much more than just getting through the hard stuff, like trauma. 💪💭
But here’s what we do believe: If your body carried you through your darkest, most difficult moments, then it also holds the capacity for joy, ease, and thriving. 🌟💖
Survival doesn’t have to be the baseline. Survival is what your body does during a traumatic experience—it protects you. But let’s not stop there. Your body’s story is about so much more than survival. It’s also about:
🌸 Connection
😊Joy
🛋️Comfort
🛡️Safety
And yes, sometimes, finding these feelings means starting with very small moments of them. They don’t have to be monumental experiences. Being able to feel an internal sense of safety after trauma, is not easy. Give yourself grace and try to allow in the trust your body does know – that you are not where you once were. ✨
Even when your body doesn’t inherently feel safe or when these feelings don’t come easily, you can create small moments of comfort and ease:
🌿A deep breath that feels grounding.
⏸️A pause where peace quietly sneaks in.
🏡A moment of ease that feels like home.
These small acts, tiny as they might seem, aren’t just moments; they’re powerful and become the foundation for something bigger: They create space for growth, curiosity, and healing. 🌱✨ They’re acts of reclaiming your body’s capacity for more than “just getting through.”
So today, we invite you: Seek out one small moment of comfort, ease, or connection. Let it remind you that your body is capable of more than just surviving. 🌻💛And share it with us in the comments below! 👇
🌱 You are allowed to want more than survival.🌿 You are allowed to thrive. 💛 Your body is a testament to resilience.
Let’s rewrite your body’s story. Together. 🤝

CW: Mention of sexual violence

This month we honor Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the powerful relationship between sexual violence and eating disorders, which is complex and deeply personal. While there’s no single cause for developing an eating disorder, trauma is often a common thread.
Survivors of sexual assault may experience profound disconnection, body shame, self-hatred, and overwhelming emotions. In moments of intense pain, controlling behaviors around food and exercise can feel like a temporary refuge—a way to numb or avoid difficult feelings and regain a sense of control.
Please know that you are not alone. Healing is possible, and hope is powerful. 💜
Here are some gentle ways to support your healing journey:
· 🌱 Grounding yourself in the present moment
· 🌸 Using mindfulness and self-care practices
· 💖 Cultivating joy and self-compassion
· 🦋 Exploring therapeutic approaches that resonate with you
· 🤝 Building a supportive community around you
Remember, your experiences do not define your worth. You deserve compassion, support, and healing.
