  ·         MEDA is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.

  ·         MEDA helps individuals and the families of those who suffer with an eating disorder by offering clinical assessments and referrals to treatment.  MEDA also provides treatment through support groups and innovative services through a model of full recovery.

  ·         MEDA offers presentations, trainings, educational materials and resources for the prevention and treatment of eating disorders.

  ·         MEDA maintains a referral network of eating disorder specialists for eating disorder treatment.

  ·         MEDA provides a forum for adults and teens to improve the social environment to prevent the growing rise of eating disorders.

   

  Agency Accomplishments

  ·         Awarded the Family Advocacy Organization of the Year by Boston Parent’s Paper

  ·         Served as Educational Specialist for National Eating Disorder Screening Project.

  ·         Created an award winning website:  www.medainc.org with a national audience that receives hundreds of hits daily (Study Web’s “Best Educational Resource Award”)

  ·         Promoted national awareness regarding eating disorder prevention through appearances on “World News Tonight with Peter Jennings” and “The Maury Povich Show, and articles in widely read magazines.  Locally, MEDA appeared on “Child Watch”, New England Cable News, Channel 7, Channel 4, and Channel 68 and Channel 56 news programs.

  ·         Inaugurating the only Helpline of its nature in the country, provided information on appropriate eating disorder recourses and information to 400-600 callers weekly.

  ·         Organized and offered seven national conferences providing education and training for over 300 professional eating disorder specialists each year.

  ·         Of the 141 charities listed in Boston Magazine, was one of a small minority who spend 75% or more of its budget on programs.

  ·         Largest provider of eating disorder support groups in New England.

  ·         Annual “Panel of Recovery” during National Eating Disorder Awareness week for the past five years with hundreds of audience members.
