Healthcare Principles of Harm Reduction: Application to Eating Disorders

Harm reduction with eating disorders is most often discussed in the context of severe and enduring anorexia nervosa. Little attention is given to eating disorders in various stages. In this this presentation, we discuss Hawk and colleagues’ (2017) healthcare principles of harm reduction: humanism, pragmatism, individualism, autonomy, incrementalism, and accountability without termination and apply those principles to all eating disorders at various stages of healing. Participants will get practice applying and discussing the principles to different case presentations.
