Coping By Taking Empowered Action
One great way of coping with stress (and we sure do have plenty of that lately!) is to focus your energy into something meaningful and important. When we are working on something important to us, we feel empowered. When that effort also helps other people struggling, it gives us a renewed sense of purpose. It just plain old feels good. It just so happens that we have an idea on how do just that. And it’s easy!
If you’re reading this, you already know that eating disorders are rampant and the pandemic has only made it worse. Triggering content abounds and it seems like everyone is sharing diet culture, fat shaming, fitspo content or all three. It’s a mess. MEDA is on the battlefield and working hard! We’ve stepped up offering free support services 7 days a week. We are determined to help people through this time, and we want to keep it going long after. But we sure could use your help to do that and be able to offer even more. The best part? It’s simple!
#GivingTuesdayNow is right around the corner on May 5th. We can use this time to educate people about eating disorders, diet culture and body shaming all while raising some funds to support MEDA’s services. We have some sample posts and graphics you can use right here. Start a Facebook Fundraiser with proceeds going to MEDA or use the graphics and posts and link to our website https://www.medainc.org/donatetoday/ Even a small amount makes a huge impact. Worried about no one contributing to yours? Don’t let that stop you from starting one! Even if the fundraiser garners no contributors for you, you’ll have still educated a whole bunch of people and that goes a long way in combatting eating disorders! There is no way to fail at this one! 😎
We are so grateful for all of your support and spirit. Because of you, we are able to continue reaching those in need and advocating for change. We truly can’t thank you enough!

Sample Post C: Did you know 30 million people suffer from eating disorders? Stuck in paralyzing fear and anxiety, they struggle every day to try to break free from the chains of their eating disorder. Many turn to social media platforms for hope and support, but are instead subjected to memes that are intended to be funny, but instead promote body shaming and fatphobia, while instilling fear about how they move their bodies or don’t. They feel triggered while their efforts to heal are thwarted. The Multi-Service Eating Disorders Association provides safe social media spaces and support in addition to its other critical services. The organization can’t continue its prevention and treatment efforts without our support. Join me in donating to MEDA to sustain its critical work. https://www.medainc.org/donatetoday/ #GivingTuesdayNow #GiveHope
Sample Post D: Eating Disorders aren’t a choice! They’re dangerous, claiming the life of a sufferer every 62 minutes. Despite 30 million people in the US suffering, many can’t get treatment. There are just not enough professionals trained in how to treat them. The Multi-Service Eating Disorders Association offers crucial trainings for professionals to ensure their clients with eating disorders receive the best care. MEDA needs our help to keep providing professionals with the latest and best treatment strategies for their clients.
