Book Event – SLIP: Life in the Middle of Eating Disorder Recovery

September 8 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Hybrid Hybrid Event

Join us for an intimate and thought-provoking event centered on Mallary Tenore Tarpley’s SLIPa powerful new book that blends memoir and reportage to explore the complexities of eating disorder recovery. Drawing from personal experience and insights gathered from hundreds of clinicians, researchers, and individuals with lived experience, SLIP offers a fresh, deeply human look at what it means to navigate the space between acute illness and full recovery.

Mallary reflects on the grief of losing her mother at age 12, the onset of anorexia that followed, and the long, nonlinear journey toward healing. Through this lens, SLIP opens up vital conversations about “the middle place”—a phase many find themselves in, whether or not they’ve been formally diagnosed.

By titling the book SLIP, Mallary wants to remove the stigma and shame around the messy, imperfect nature of recovery. Living in the middle place isn’t about giving up on full recovery, and it’s not quasi-recovery; it’s about viewing recovery as an ongoing process rather than a final destination. Though focused on eating disorders, SLIP is also about so much more: motherhood, grief, loss, and learning to embrace healing in all its forms.

This conversation will be moderated by Melissa Freizinger, PhD from Boston Children’s Hospital.

All are welcome — those in recovery, loved ones, clinicians, or anyone interested in a more nuanced understanding of mental health and embodiment.

Come to listen, reflect, and connect. Let’s rewrite the narrative of recovery—together.
