MEDA is a nonprofit organization
Dedicated to the Prevention & Treatment of Eating Disorders.
We provide clinical services for individuals and families, educational programs for the community and training for professionals.
We offer a variety of clinical and therapeutic services to support individuals and loved ones through the various stages of their journeys. We provide education about eating disorders and their underlying causes to develop a compassionate community that promotes hopefulness and supports healing.
We’re excited to have Alivia on our team!
Alivia received her bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Nebraska and received her master’s degree in social work from Simmons University. She was introduced to working with eating disorders during her graduate-level practicum at Cambridge Eating Disorder Center. After receiving her degree, she continued her work at CEDC providing individual, family, and group counseling to those in recovery from their eating disorder. Alivia has worked in both PHP and IOP levels of care and is excited to step into the world of outpatient therapy.
She believes in utilizing a strengths-based approach to help guide others towards growth and change in recovery, while working to build self-compassion and resiliency. Alivia enjoys facilitating group therapy, utilizing members’ shared experiences to alleviate feelings of isolation common in recovery, as well as members’ success stories to reinforce hope and strengthen group members’ ability to live their life authentically.

Today is International Self-Care Day, which is a great time to remember that self-care is for everyone. Self-care can look different for each person, but we all deserve to care for ourselves the way we would for a loved one.
If you’re working on healing from an eating disorder, that’s an act of self-care as well. You’re doing something incredible by pouring into your own cup and tending to your well-being.

Setting boundaries is often much harder than we make it sound.
You can start with taking time to reflect, think, and even write down how you feel about boundaries. From there, you can begin to identify what your needs and wants are.
With practice, we can become more confident in upholding the boundaries that are important to us.

July is BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month. There are many factors that disproportionately affect BIPOC communities when it comes to mental health and access to care. It’s important that we address these disparities and recognize how our race, identities, and cultural backgrounds all influence our mental health.
Within the eating disorder space and beyond, everyone deserves quality and culturally affirming mental health support.

Monte Nido recently launched a national awareness campaign called “Hidden,” dedicated to acknowledging the silent struggles endured by millions hiding their eating disorders. The campaign video features common behaviors exhibited by those silently grappling with eating disorders, fostering a sense of visibility and empowerment to seek support they need.
The journey toward healing is not one that individuals should navigate alone. Together, we can strive to create a space where individuals feel seen, heard, and supported, breaking down barriers and paving the way for greater access to life-saving care.

June is PTSD Awareness Month. PTSD and eating disorders can occur together, and some individuals develop EDs as a way to cope with trauma.
It’s important that we recognize and validate everyone’s unique experiences to better support them.
