Back-to-School Reminder: Not everything that deserves an A belongs on a report card.
As a new school year begins, here`s a different kind of checklist:
☐ Ate lunch, even when the day felt busy.
☐ Asked for help instead of pretending everything was fine.
☐ Took a break without feeling guilty.
☐ Sat with a friend who looked alone.
☐ Remembered that your worth isn`t measured by grades, sports, appearance, or productivity.
Undoubtedly, school teaches us a lot of important lessons. We hope this year also teaches that taking care of yourself isn`t something you have to earn.
If this season brings up stress around food, body image, or perfectionism, you`re not alone. Support is available, and reaching out is a sign of strength, not failure. MEDA is here to help.

NEXT MONTH!
MEDA is pleased to welcome Amy Boyers, PhD, Co-Founder of @galen.hope, for a professional training on Friday, September 18th: "Too Much of a Good Thing: Understanding Exercise Addiction & Compulsive Exercise."
Movement is so often framed as unambiguously healthy that harmful patterns can hide in plain sight. This training examines how fitness culture contributes to delayed diagnosis, and why exercise addiction warrants clinical attention as a disorder in its own right - even in the absence of an eating disorder.
In this presentation, you`ll:
-> Recognize what exercise addiction and compulsive exercise look like in practice
-> Understand the medical complications that can accompany them
-> Walk through the stages of treatment, including common interventions, mindful movement, and reintegrating movement during and after recovery
-> Explore how exercise addiction presents in athletes and the dilemmas that come with it
Dr. Boyers will also address how appropriate movement can be thoughtfully integrated into eating disorder treatment.

Stories can impact people in ways that facts and statistics cannot.
They also have the power to remind us that we are not alone.
They help us recognize ourselves in one another.
They give language to experiences that may have felt impossible to explain and remind people struggling with eating disorders that they are not alone. A shared story can soften shame, challenge assumptions, open the door to difficult conversations, and offer hope to someone who cannot yet imagine recovery for themselves.
When one person speaks honestly about what they have carried, it can give someone else the courage to seek support, hold onto hope, or believe that healing is possible.
At MEDA’s 2026 Annual Breakfast, The Stories We Carry, Voices of Courage, we will come together to listen to two powerful stories shaped by eating disorders and recovery - and honor the courage it takes to share them. We are delighted to welcome @mallarytenoretarpley, MFA and @threaldannyoconnor to share their stories of strength, resilience, struggle, and hope.
That is why supporting MEDA’s 2026 Annual Breakfast matters. By attending, sponsoring, or donating, you help elevate these stories while making MEDA’s treatment, support, education, and advocacy possible.
Join us on Friday, November 6, at the Boston Marriott Newton. Come to listen, connect, and help build a community where every story matters.

Eating disorders don`t discriminate, but treatment doesn`t always reflect that.
In this blog from our friends at @within_health, Jamie Singleteary, MA, LPC, NCC, CPCS, explores how stereotypes still shape who gets diagnosed, why treating the whole person matters more than treating symptoms alone, and what truly individualized care looks like in practice.

What if health included safety, access, community care, cultural connection, enough food, adequate sleep, autonomy, joy?
What would change if we defined health through care instead of control?

A huge thank you to our incredible sponsors supporting this year`s MEDA`s Annual Breakfast, "The Stories We Carry, Voices of Courage," on November 6th. We can`t continue to do this important work without you.
Every eating disorder carries a story: of frustration, of the exhausting search for help, and ultimately of resilience and hope. Your sponsorship does more than support this event. It helps ensure that more people find expert care, more clinicians know what to look for, more families receive answers sooner, and more individuals have the opportunity to recover.
Interested in becoming a sponsor? Opportunities are still available and sponsorship levels start at $1,000. See the full list of sponsor benefits - head to the link in our bio and click "MEDA Breakfast."

New research from Center for Countering Digital Hate (@counterhate found YouTube is still recommending harmful eating disorder content to accounts registered as 13-year-old girls.
The platform has shown it can reduce these harms. Now it should stop recommending this content altogether.
Head over to counterhate.com to read the findings + urge YouTube to take real action now.
